Sassou Japan – Gold Beauty Cleansing Bar
In the last few years gold has been used by many skincare and cosmetics brands. While we now know it to be true that gold is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory ingredient, it has been used since ancient times. Cleopatra is said to have used gold as a mask nightly to keep a youthful appearance. It was also used by the Romans, Greeks and of course, the Japanese.
Sassou have created this beautiful, luxe cleansing bar using gold and other powerful ingredients to purify, sooth, hydrate and repair the skin, while also looking absolutely amazing.
- Gold – Detoxifying, brightening, increases collagen production
‘Studies show that there are similarities between the wavelengths of negative ions released by gold and the ions released by the human body. This means that the mineral can enhance particle circulation, and thereby reinvigorating the bio-electric current that naturally weakens as we age. It is for these reasons that gold can ultimately rejuvenate your skin cells, improve blood circulation, enhance your skin metabolism by revitalise dormant skin tissues and cell competency.’(From the website)
- Arnica Montana Flower Extract – reduces inflammation, great for acne and skin disorders
- Lamium Album Flower Extract – soothing, calming
- Honey – rejuvenating, hydrating, healing

First of all, the packaging. It very much reminds me of something I would have seen on my grandmothers vanity. Definitely a keeper once the cleanser is used up. There is a draining plate below the bar so it can be left in the container without staying wet and holding germs..
The cleanser itself on first opening the box has a pleasant, light scent. Floral but subtile. The bar is very solid and clear with gold flecks. It also comes with a facial foaming pad.
How I used it
- Wet the facial foaming pad
- Rub on the cleansing bar to create a lather
- Place foam/lather on face and massage for 15 to 30 seconds
- Rinse with warm water
- Pat dry
- Continue with skincare routine
Foaming cleansers tend to be quite stripping, creating a tight feeling on the face. With this product, I didn’t find that to be the case. The lather was creamy, not bubbly, and felt great on the skin. I rinsed it off just with my hands and water, then pat dry with a towel. My skin immediately felt smooth and looked visibly glowed. I followed up with my usual toner and moisturiser.
I think it’s a great cleanser, though I do get dry skin on my nose no matter what and this didn’t change it. I personally wouldn’t recommend for extremely dry skin. I have sensitive skin and didn’t notice any issues, however it is always recommended to do a patch test before trying anything new. Especially on skin prone to reaction.
