Born In 1987, I am a 90’s child through and through. Boy bands, the Spice Girls, blow up backpacks and Care Bears were a massive part of my preteen life! Obviously being 12 when the decade ended, I wasn’t as much interested in the fashion and style of the time.
As with most trends, they tend to loop back every few decades. For myself, I’ve found that I take inspiration from trends rather then copying them and I find it really hard to let go of clothes I love, so why not just add to my style?
Some of my absolute fave 90’s throwbacks have to be the jewellery and the shoes. Chokers have been trending for a while now, and don’t seem likely to go anywhere for a while. With shoes, it’s all about boots and velvet heels. These are such simple ways to incorporate 90’s trends into your wardrobe without breaking the bank. I won’t lie, sometimes there will be a statement piece you just have to have, no mater the cost. Items like that are the ones you know will be a staple in your wardrobe for years to come.
Another important part of the 90’s was the hair and makeup. Most predominately darker lipsticks. This is something that will stay around I think. Wearing the colours you want is so normal now. I mean, who would have thought that brown lipstick would be popular again when we have so much colour to choose from? Hair-wise, it was little buns with hair in crazy sections and the start of ‘The Rachel’ (If you don’t know what this is in reference to – click here).
I’ve put together a few of my go to 90’s inspired looks using some basics and some newer items as well as my favourite lipsticks!

Balancai Jacket – Rocky Rockafela
Below I’ve compiled a list of everything I love from the 90’s. Feeling nostalgic? Share your faves in the comments at the bottom of this post.
Movies:
- A Land Before Time. This was such an emotional movie for me. I remember crying because I didn’t want it to end.
- Fern Gully. This was just essential! I couldn’t tell you how many times I watched this movie!
- The Lion King – enough said.
Special mention to Clueless. I didn’t watch this until the ‘00s but love it!
T.V. shows:
- Care Bears of course. They were just so full of love and sharing!
- The Fresh Prince of Bel Air – Classic Will Smith
- The Nanny! I still watch reruns.
Music:
At the time Back Street Boys were my choice… now I totally think NSYNC was better. The Spice Girls! Savage Garden and The Corrs… my mum loved them so I did too. As I’ve gotten older my idea of 90’s music has changed a little… Nirvana, Silverchair, No Doubt and Alanis Morisette to name a few.
Must have items:
Glitter pens, butterfly hair clips, blow up backpacks and stretchy black lace style jewellery. Special mention to Pokémon Cards!
